Our first 10 years

Unbelievably it's now 10 years since Martin set up Baigent in 1997 - and there's now 25 of us... and over 60 charity clients including the British Red Cross, Cancer Research UK and the Women’s Institute making the most of our web strategy, design, development and site management tools as well as really good online fundraising facilities.

We had a look back at what we've been up to - and bring you a few highlights from 97-07:

1997: Cybercard
Customised online greetings card website - seriously ahead of it's time. Online shopping was only really Amazon and a few big offline brands.

1998: Teenage Health Freak
www.teenagehealthfreak.org
Millions of teenagers have visited pages from acne to warts, puberty to contraception. Hit the Mail on Sunday headlines in 2001 with "sex and drugs website shock for under 11s"!

1999: Tearfund
One of the market leaders in charity websites - comprehensive information and campaigning site - and the origin of Baigent's Site Manager.

2000: junctionradio
UGC before podcasting was even heard of - youth groups made radio programmes and uploaded them, using Site Manager, to the junctionradio site - visitors listen online.

2001: Hamilton Trust
www.hamilton-trust.org.uk
This site completely transformed this charity, enabling them to go from supporting dozens of local Oxford teachers to hundreds of thousands of teachers across the UK.

2002: British Heart Foundation (HPRG) Heartstats
www.heartstats.org
Baigent's colourful design provides accessible info for the public and detailed info for health professionals and researchers - and still looks beautiful today.

2003: Church House Bookshop
www.chbookshop.co.uk
A simple, understated design maximises usability, minimises basket abandonment and total integration with offline stock control ensures effective shopping for all.

2004: The Ezekiel Project
www.ezekielproject.com
Our brief: ‘create a website that communicates Christianity to teenagers in a contemporary way’ (we love a challenge!)  And it does: online polls, Q&A pages, email & SMS.

2005: The British Red Cross
www.redcross.org.uk
The launch of this award-winning site was a brilliant moment in a relationship started in 2001. Features include one of the first charity "In my area" tools and integrated online fundraising.

2006: Royal Medical Benevolent Fund
www.money4medstudents.org
What a difference user consultation makes. Designed and structured from a medical student's perspective, features includes an online budget planner and advice clinic.

2007: Cancer Research UK: Get Involved
www.cancerresearchuk.org
It looks so simple on the front end but it's devilishly clever behind the scenes. Find shops, events, volunteering opportunities - the site even gives maps and directions - what more do you need?!

and also (well we couldn't leave without mentioning the WI...)

2007: The Women's Institute
www.thewi.org.uk
Helping to re-position the WI this new site supports membership & communicates campaigns - like Carbon Challenge - and shows there's more to the WI than you think.

A big thank you to all our clients and team who've enabled us to go from strength to strength.
